CHAPTER 3

Special Force : Delta-Strike

Red and Black

One of our value and morality as a Syaxelian concerns praising the positivity. But once again, we can learn that our values and morality are basicly just a story about points of view. The perfect example is that sometimes, only Evil... can defeat Evil!

My back was hurting. I'd been sitting here for long time in the same position, trying to avoid the stupid AGD from shooting at me one of his idiot fireballs. Holding my HS-C solidly like a religious item, I had an urging envy to just run up to him and give him the smack of his life! Someone interrupted my thoughts on my PAD's COMLink (communication channel) by saying my name:

  • Uxot! shouted my Field Staff.
  • What?
  • Hold on, the reinforcements is coming your way.
  • It’s about time... I'm starting to feel like roasted food here...
  • Just hold on. The Leader of the Squad has a plan, he wants to divert the attention of the AGD by massively shooting on his shield. The ECAR-75 doesn't penetrate his shield but every impact burns him a lot, weakening him every time. He wants you to pay attention to the AGD and headshot him as soon as his shield is weak enough to allow your HS-C to pass through.
  • Good plan. Well any plan that doesn't include Uxot getting killed will do for now...
  • Good luck Unit!
  • Yeah yeah...

I hate this guy. Always smiling. Probably even when getting shot at. I imagined him running in the field, gun in his hand while smiling like an idiot. Every time he talks to us I get the feeling we are in some kid's spy game over the network... Like "hey kids! Lets do some killing and I'll all give you an ice cream after!". I started to hear ECAR-75 beams down below my position. I was taking cover in one of the school's towers, peaking over the AGD's siege in the main hall. Looking down I saw the AGD's red shield keeping buzzing because of the fire he was taking. Firing small fireballs right out of his hands, he was defending his life, knowing he probably was approaching his death. Axis's Squad were well positioned, not allowing the AGD any chance to take cover on any position, he was trapped... And that’s what I feared the most - that or being stuck in the same room with Mr Happy Field Staff for a whole day... My COMLink buzzed again, showing me the face of some unknown blond haired fool. Then I recognised him, it was the guy from Arkylias's AirBoard race?

  • Squad Staff?
  • Yeah, what do you want?
  • I'm Axis, Squad Leader of the support group. We're currently covering every escape route for the target. Please take aim and open fire as soon as you notice a failure in his shield.
  • Wow your so intelligent...
  • Eh...? Uh... Thank you...?
  • Its an A-G-D... You think he's gonna let himself be pinned down by some new recruits with toy guns ?
  • Toy guns? We're equipped with ECAR-75, what other weapons would you expect us to have?
  • You don't get it, this mutated dog needs a couple of Sky Fighter's huge caliber up his ass. Our assault team had a guy equipped with a damn HSAR-80 (Hard Shell heavy Assault Rifle).
  • Yeah, its hard shells! What we have are energy cells, we're not killing him, but we're taking his shield down and when it goes down, I need you to not waste a second and shoot him right in the head!
  • Hum... ok.

Energy Cells... Its true that the ECAR-75 is a power full, probably the most power full energy only assault weapon and seems to have an effect on the fire dog down below me. I could feel him, his sudden fear of the situation. I could feel that he was starting to panic and when I raised my head to take a peak down, I noticed an agitated, paniced AGD firing fireballs everywhere without any sense. I took aim at the head and waited. Shortly after, I noticed that the color variation in his shield reached nearly the invisible point. I quickly opened fire and the bullet of my HS-C made a loud noise while shocking its way out of the barrel. The bullet made its way down the tower and hit the AGD's shield with a big deflection noise.

  • Oh shit...

The AGD furiously turned his head towards me with an anger look. I could almost read "YOU AGAIN!" in his face. He raised his both hands in the air and then, in a movement, extended them towards the bottom of the tower. I really had a bad feeling about this. Then I felt energy and realised that a huge fireball emerged from his bare hands to crash itself at the base of the tower, breaking apart the whole structure. The tower started falling on itself in pile of smoke and debris. Weeeeeeeeee! I hit the ground with a violent noise and the pain in my back quickly got replaced by one on my side. The dust was making me cough when suddenly five big fingers found the way to my throat, griping me hardly while slamming me on the remains of what used to be a wall. What is your problem? Can't a guy cough in peace... I was forcing to get free of his grip but neither my hands, nor my kicks seemed to even affect on him. My vision was turning black, which I would in another situation loved to see. I was truly starting to think that I was about to die when in the mist of my half- consciousness, I heard a voice behind my ugly gripper.

  • Over here big boy!

The AGD turned his head only to have the pleasure of meeting the cross of an ECAR-75 from very close... A cross hit close! The violence of the hit knocked him away as his body slipped hard on the ground. I fell along with him and continued where I last stopped : coughing! Axis was standing over the monster, tending to me his hand to help me get up.

  • So... Do you often get such ugly dates? said Axis with a smile.
  • No, your the first!
  • Haha. Good job there getting his attention!
  • Yeah... Next time, you get the job of getting the attention of a 2 m high flame boosted monster who got up on the wrong foot this morning... While I take my time and gently knock him back into sleep.

We started walking out of the debris, gathering with the rest of the Units while we were waiting for the dropships to come and pick us up.

  • You shouldn't feel bad, I'm sure he's dreaming of you! Added Axis with a little smile while helping me climb into the ship.
  • Yeah, I wish he is. Making sure the last thing he sees is a Nightmare...

Back into a dropship taking off for Selter, I couldn't feel better after the nice day I just spent. The Units around me were always sending quick looks at me, probably the reason of their mission than to rescue my group... Who all died anyway. I was feeling alone, which wasn't new for me, but more particularly at this time because no one knew me but everyone was looking at me. I realised something strange when looking at Axis. I usually hate everyone who keeps a stupid smile in their face. Especially such "Hey! Look at me, I'm good" person. But for some reason, I had a good impression about him. I am sure th...

  • Hey Uxot! shouted Axis while turning his head towards me.
  • What do you want?
  • Kayla was wondering how you managed to survive the fall from the tower.

I looked over Axis's shoulder to see a beautiful black haired girl that was looking directly in my eyes. Gahhhh... I was unable to talk! I wanted to say something but words started to become very confusing for me and I had this stupid envy to smile...

  • Uh... Well... I... Hum... I don't know... I just survived
  • But not only are you alive, but you don't seem to even have a scarf! she said.

Arrgg... What a nice voice she has! Why aren't there such girls in my Squad... Instead, I'm stuck with idiots smiling while running in battle. She seems to always follow Axis anyway... Wow, they are probably going out with each other... Yay... Like always, I'm the most lucky one who gets stuck with fireball wannabe fools. I had to reply to her...

  • Well... I just don't know... And don't care anyway.

They all turned their head away and started talking to themselves back again. I was safe, for now!

Once arrived at the military base on Selter, I jumped out of the dropship and walked towards my corridor.

  • Uxot!

I turned around and saw Axis walking to me. He then added:

  • You’re the guy in a black hovercar I saw in the industrial park shortly after Arkylias's AirBoard race right?
  • No, I'm the guy in the pink hovercar you saw in the kid's park long after Arkylias's SpaceBalloon race... Of course I'm that guy...
  • Great! You saved me from a crash that day. I always wanted to thank you!

He then shook my hand and smiled at me. I was feeling a bit shy so I smiled back at him, wishing to change subject.

  • Well I wish you a good journey out there Uxot! And next time... Try to avoid blind dates, they tend to burn your ass off hehe. Said Axis with a funny smile.
  • Yeah yeah... Next one, its me who's gonna burn his ass off!

We started walking in opposite directions, but I felt like if this wasn't really supposed to end here... Hesitating at first, I turned myself and said:

  • Axis?
  • Yes?
  • Thanks for the rescue.
  • Was a pleasure.

He seemed really happy and then rejoined his Squad. As I was walking back to my quarters I realised that despite the day I had, I was feeling good. Probably because Axis's presence reminded me of the good times when I was in my black hovercar, listening to music while taking the sharp turns in the industrial park. For some reason... I had the feeling this wasn't the last time I was gonna see him!
